Artist statement: "Scribbling is a manipulative skill and involves the ability to use one’s hands and fingers with dexterity. Developing this skill is vital to mastering hand-to-eye coordination, which is necessary to read from left to right. As I watch my oldest child, of 18 months, scribble his way through the first stage of childhood artistic development and to know how important it is for him not only in hand eye coordination but also literacy it caused me to question my own stages of development. I realized as a sculptor I never went through the scribbling stage of development and began to wonder how much better I could be if I would just crawl before I tried to run? Simply enjoying the physical motions involved in sculptural scribbling and focusing on the act of doing, not the product, I began to ask myself; where there stages that I have skipped in other areas of my life? Have you taken all the step to become the best you at what you do; or did you subconsciously skip a few steps along the way?"
